About Suicide Squad (and DC films)

There was a dark time, long ago, when kids worldwide were mostly DEPRIVED of super-hero movies.

After Donner’s MAGNIFICENT Superman (1978) we were only given sprinkles of average-to-bad movies.

With the 2000s there was a fresh new wave of super-hero flix that were on the general, quite decent.

That led to 2008. To Marvel films. Whence and where the average was Very-good to excellent.

Right now (2016) there are 8 superhero movies scheduled every year for the foreseeable future, on top of a dozen ongoing super-hero themed TV show.

The drought have ended. We will no longer consume crap just because it’s super-hero themed.
Let’s not make this a DC v Marvel issue neither. We are infinitely in debts toward DC Comics. They brought us «the Super-hero». They started both the Golden age and Silver age of comics. They also brought the Modern age of comics with such seminal work as The Watchmen and The Dark Knight returns.
They own some of the worlds most widely recognized iconic figures. There is no justification as why DC films are not the greatest. This is the most enraging of all. Especially after Paul Dini‘s amazing DC Cartoon universe, while Marvel cartons have always been average in quality. You’d expect some in-house pride.
Suicide Squad, as with BvS before it, falls back to pre-2000 standards. Back to Batman Forever standards. Bad, bad, bad.
I wont enumerate the many blunders this movie-like thing is riddled with. Check out the many excellent analyses and critics out there: Comic Book Girl 19, Emergency Awesome, Film Theorists, Mr Sunday Movies… etc. All, right on the spot. No plot, incoherent blob of stuff. No villain. No Joker. No movie.
Let’s hope that the coming of Geoff Johns at the helms will save the sinking behemoth that is the Dc Cinematic Universe. Let some Crisis on Infinite earth type mega-catastrophe destroy the mega-catastrophe. Don’t try to be Marvel. Do your own thing…at your own pace. Who knows what could come out of THAT?
